Commence Mutt Struttin’

Next Saturday will (hopefully)  be a lovely day for the massive doggy get together known as Strut Your Mutt, sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society and the society’s No More Homeless Pets of Utah program. City Dogs will be there slingin’ wieners,  so please stop by. Note the location has changed to Veterans Memorial Park in West Jordan.

I’ll bring wieners for attendees and even their dogs (doggies love City Dogs’ franks).

Best Friends is trying to raise $170,000 for local animal rescue organizations and so far have collected about $41,000.

If you’ve never mutt strutted before with Best Friends, then come one down to Veterans Memorial Park May 21. For more information, go to and City Dogs will see you there.

Blame it on the Rain, yeah yeah

Salt Lake City in the Rain I -- Marilyn Hunt

This blog will function as a crappy weather alert blog, I’m realizing. Since I’ve made the call to close City Dogs for two days in a row (yesterday and today also), we can quickly review why.

(If you want to receive very occasional weather-closure alerts and wicked deals from City Dogs via text message, send your mobile number and your mobile service providers (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) to and put “signup” in the subject. You’ll receive a free offer for signing up. )

First, from NOAA:

Today: Showers. High near 52. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming northwest. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Not exactly sunshine and rainbows; it’s more like soggy buns and cold hands kinda weather.

Add to that a NOAA-Salt Lake City “hazardous weather outlook” for all of northern Utah:

Lovely. Snow in the mountains is fine, but if it snows again on the valley floor I’m gonna shoot a skier, cuz they always be prayin’ for snow.

Maybe there’s hope if I just check another website…?

Cloudy with showers. High near 50F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

That’s barely better and I usually accord more credibility to NOAA anyway.  The last source I check is

Today is forecast to be nearly the same temperature as yesterday. … Widespread rain showers. Highs around 50. Chance of showers 90 percent.

The forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the week looks peachy, however, so I’ll see you Wednesday on my corner, 200 E. 300 South in SLC.  Can’t wait to be back grillin’ dogs. See you then. (I miss you).

And if you’re like me, the headline is just enough nostalgia to make you need to watch the vid. Here: I’ve done the search-work for you:

Rained Out — Monday, May 9

Due to today’s cold and wet weather, City Dogs will not be open. We’ll be staying indoors–like most of you probably will.

We’ll post this news to Twitter and Facebook but we know some of you hate social networking services for various reasons.  If that’s you but you still want to receive very occasional messages from City Dogs about weather closures and wicked deals, then send an email to with your cell phone number and your cell phone service provider (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.). Put “signup” in the subject line and we’ll offer you a special discount on your next visit to City Dogs. We’ll never share your information with anyone and you can cancel at anytime.

Also, we are not ready to launch this today but we are discussing a food delivery service as well as catering service. Please ask about discounts and contact us about catering your next office meeting, daycare event, picnic, party or wedding (yes, of course, you can serve veggie dogs at a wedding!).

Lastly, I want to thank hosts Redirect Guide and all the awesome customers who got a dog from us Saturday at the Live Green Festival. We had a stellar day and made some awesome new friends.
