Hip-hopper Lupe Fiasco closes out Twilight–Watch video for “Show Goes On”

Lupe Fiasco’s raps entered our world back in 2006 with Food&Liquor, an awesome album of conscious hip-hop, low ego and fun beats. Now out with the smash-hit album Lasers, Fiasco has reached a new level of mainstream popularity. He’s a big radio star now and tonight’s show will demonstrate why.

City Dogs will be at the Twilight show with our usual Five Dollar Rockstar Deal, which is a hotdog and Rockstar energy drink for only $5. We’ll also have brats, Italian sausages and Dillos. Our location was moved halfway through the series, so if you are looking for us, we are still on the north side of the park, but closer to the stage than we were before, now in the dead-center of the park. Look for the disco ball!

In other news, we’re going to be closed Friday to celebrate the end of a very successful Twilight Concert Series! Thank you all for making it so much fun. In actuality, we’re traveling that day and can’t find a replacement.

Also, on Monday we’ll likely be closed due to a doctor’s appointment. We had helpers–really, we did–but Joe was nearly killed by a car on his bike, and David works at a school, so he’s less available than he used to be. We find ample people wanting to run the cart, it’s much harder to find someone who has a trailer hitch and can bring the cart to the corner.

Here’s Fiasco’s most-watched video, “The Show Goes On,” from his newest album Lasers.

Oh, they’re dancy! Ghostland Observatory’s video for Sad, Sad City

Well why didn’t someone tell us that Ghostland Observatory is kinda Freddie Mercury meets a synthesizer stuck on booty-shake? Um, hello, we woulda’ given them a listen long ago. No bother: They’ll be shakin’ it tonight at the always-free Twilight Concert Series, and, as always, City Dogs will be there too.

This year’s Twilight line-up has been pretty mellow (sadly), sometimes making our spinning disco ball, well, the most energetic thing around. Good bands, no doubt, but low-energy. We’re glad Ghostland Observatory will shatter that trend tonight.

If you’re happy to have a reason to dance, maybe the magical taurine zip of the Five Dollar Rockstar Deal will appeal to you: $5 for a hotdog and Rockstar energy drink. We’ll also have beer brats, Italian sausages, a mix of drinks, cream-filled dessert-cake Dillos from Cakewalk Baking Company and ice cream from Chocolate Conspiracy.

We’ll see you tonight.

Bright Eyes tonight at Twilight–watch video for new song “Shell Games”

That dreamy rock boy Connor Oberst brings his moody music to Pioneer Park tonight with his band Bright Eyes. The band’s latest album, The People’s Key, is much rockier than I remember Bright Eyes being from albums past. Watch the video for “Shell Games” below–we admit, we’re hearing this song for the first time today and…WE LOVE IT! Bright Eyes is so gonna kill it tonight!

When you need a break from the crowd, come to City Dogs for the Five Dollar Rockstar Deal–we’ll get you a hotdog and Rockstar energy drink for just $5. We’ll also have beer brats, Italian sausages, chocolate and raspberry ice cream from Chocolate Conspiracy, chilled cream-filled-cake Dillos (including the new Peanut Butter Pipe Bomb!) from Cakewalk Bakery and, as always, a whole lot of attitude.

We’ll be in the northwest corner of Pioneer Park, disco ball spinning. No joke, we’re probably the fastest food vendors at the park, so if there’s a line, don’t fret; we’ll get to you quickly.

See you tonight!

Thurston Moore tonight at Twilight–watch video for “Circulation”

Thurston Moore is playing Twilight tonight! Doors open at 5 p.m. and City Dogs will have a dog ready for ya’.

It looks like another perfect weather night for Twilight, woo-hoo.

We’re luck to have Moore tonight for a free show! The Sonic Youth frontman’s newest album, Demolished Thoughts, was produced by Beck–yeah, that Beck.  Cool, huh?  Moore’ll be playing a lot of stuff from that album tonight, no doubt.

We’re featuring the Five Dollar Rockstar Deal again tonight–you get a City Dogs hot dog and a Rockstar energy drink for only $5–people are lovin’ that. We’ll also have beer brats, Italian Sausages, Dillos and Chololate Conspiracy ice cream.

Here’s a song from Moore’s newest album: “Circulation.” See you tonight!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and City Dogs at Twilight

Tonight, Salt Lake City is honored to host Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes at the always-free Twilight Concert Series, and City Dogs will be there once again.

As usual, we’ll have the best deal at Twilight, the Five Dollar Rockstar Deal–which is a Rockstar energy drink and a hotdog for only $5. We’ll also be serving beer brats, Italian Sausages, cream-filled dessert cake Dillos from SLC’s Cakewalk Baking and vegan, organic, raw chocolate ice cream from SLC’s Chocolate Conspiracy.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes’ biggest hit was the theme to Where the Wild Things Are, called “Home.”

We want to highlight another song, however, called “Let’s Win,” by Alexander Ebert, the band leader of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.  The video was shot here in beautiful Salt Lake City in February when band was in town to support environmental activist Tim DeChristopher during his trial. If you missed the rallies and marches, here’s a good chance to get a taste. Keeping up the radically good vibes, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes played an intimate show at the Peaceful Uprising warehouse last night as a fundraiser–it was tons of fun.

So, we’ll see you tonight (we’re in the northwest corner of Pioneer Park, around 400 West 300 South!). Here’s “Let’s Win.”

City Dogs and Decemberists tonight at Twilight–July, July, indeed

We’re so excited the Decemberists are playing tonight at the Twilight Concert Series, which, as you know, is always free. Door open at 5 p.m.–come early to avoid lines.

Come to City Dogs to get the sweetest deal at Twilight–The Five Dollar Rockstar Deal. That’s a hotdog and Rockstar energy drink for only $5.

We’ll also be stocked with beer brats, Italian sausages, deliciously chilled Dillos from Salt Lake City’s Cakewalk Baking Company and raw, organic, vegan chocolate ice cream from Salt Lake City’s Chocolate Conspiracy.

You can find City Dogs in the northwest corner of Pioneer Park, closest to the corner of 400 West and 300 South. Just look for the disco ball (no joke!).

City Dogs at the Twilight Concert Series

It is so that time again; time for Salt Lake City’s premier music event of the year, the Twilight Concert Series. City Dogs will be there, every Thursday, for the next 8 weeks, starting tonight with the bands Explosions in the Sky and No Age.

Admission is always FREE! Doors open at 5 p.m.

Tonight’s menu will include hot dogs, beer brats, Italian Sausages, Dillos from Cakewalk Baking Company, chocolate ice cream from Chocolate Conspiracy, and Rockstar energy drinks so you can party like uh…, well, you get it.

If you haven’t been to the Twilight shows since their move to Pioneer Park then you really must check them out again. The cramped digs at the old location threatened to ruin the whole event for anyone over 20, so I’m happy to say that having an entire city block–Pioneer Park at 400 South 400 West–allows the enormous crowd breathing room. Don’t expect to get too close to the stage, but there’s even room for strollers now in case you want to be a rockin’ momma or daddy.

Today we will be closing at 2:30 p.m. at our normal location, 200 East 300 South, in order to prepare for this massive event on the other side of downtown.

Next week’s show is one of my favorites, The Decemberists.  You won’t want to miss that. For the complete lineup and more information, click here.
