Hey Friends and City Dogs lovers!

Opening day will be Tuesday, May 3!  

The special will be the Madhatter salad wrap. The Mad Hatter is steamed tempeh in dressing with celery, parsley, pickles, peas and sunflower seeds in a whole wheat and flax salad wrap. Think tuna salad without the crazy-making mercury contaminants.

The Mad Hatter contains complete protein, offers Omega fatty acids and is oh-so good!

As always, we’ll have our many dogs, potato salad, chili, drinks, chips and more.

It’s going to be a beautiful day. Come say hello and get a dog.

City Dogs vegetarian food cart ready to roll

Downtown Salt Lake City–Popular vegetarian food cart City Dogs is under new ownership and will open in early May.

Previous owners Miah and Alicia Smith had a baby in the previous

year and sold the business to have more time with their son.

The cart is now owned and will be operated by Jesse Fruhwirth, a local investigative journalist who most recently served as digital news editor at Salt Lake City Weekly. Fruhwirth will be introducing new menu items like salad wraps made with Salt Lake City-grown produce and organic, non-GMO soy tempeh.

“I’m super excited for people to try the salad wraps I’m adding to the menu–they’re great–but I’m also really pumped about engaging my community in a new way,” Fruhwirth says. “I hope to start a conversation about food and how we eat, and also create an awesome place to grab a bite to eat and chat with neighbors and fellow downtown workers.”

Fruhwirth was twice a finalist for the Utah Headliner’s Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalist’s Best Reporter prize in 2010 and 2008. He intends to continue working as a journalist on a freelance basis, including for City Weekly.

The City Dog Blog at http://www.saltcitydogs.com will feature news and Fruhwirth’s perspectives on food, diet, exercise, eco-centric living, agribusiness, genetic modification of foods, vegan recipes, interviews with interesting customers–and more.
